CHICAGO — Grainger reported Q3 sales of $2.6 billion, an increase of 3% compared to $2.5 billion the same time last year. Net earnings for the quarter, at $186 million, were down 3% versus $192 million in 2015. Earnings per share of $3.05 increased 4% versus $2.92 in 2015. Operating earnings of $323 million for the 2016 third quarter declined 5% versus $341 million in the 2015 quarter. The decline was driven by lower gross profit margins partially offset by lower operating expenses.
