Two new stores, one closure for Gordon’s Ace

CHICAGO — Gordon’s Ace Hardware has announced it recently acquired two Ace Hardware stores located in Chicago’s Norwood Park and Harwood Heights neighbourhoods. At the same time, store management also announced it will close its existing store in the Lakeview neighbourhood. Gordon’s co-owners, father and son team Les and Jeremy Melnick, will acquire Harlem Foster Hardware and Norwood Park Ace Hardware from owner Jim Tierney. The change of ownership decision was made as part of Tierney’s retirement succession plan, and is also a key part of the Melnicks’ growth plan.

At the same time, one existing north-side store will close due to space limitations. “Making the decision to close a store is never easy, and it’s never made in haste,” said Jeremy Melnick. “Our focus needs to be on investing in ‘right size’ stores, and unfortunately at just 4,000 square feet, our Clark Street store simply doesn’t offer enough space to effectively serve our neighbors in the community.” All employees at the location will be offered opportunities at other stores under the Gordon’s Ace umbrella, which will now total nine stores.
